Business Internet & Enterprise Connectivity in Kazakhstan
There's a routing problem almost every provider ignores when quoting Kazakhstan connectivity. It's not about speed or price — it's geography. There's no fibre across the Caspian Sea.

There's a routing problem almost every provider ignores when quoting Kazakhstan connectivity. It's not about speed or price — it's geography. There's no fibre across the Caspian Sea. That single fact shapes everything about how traffic gets from Almaty to Europe, and most providers don't mention it until you're already mid-contract.
The Connectivity Landscape
Kazakhstan's carrier market has real depth. Kazakhtelecom is the dominant incumbent — roughly 52% of the data centre market, 27 facilities nationwide. Beeline Kazakhstan is building out enterprise services, including a new Tier III hyperscale facility in Almaty due late 2026. Tele2 Kazakhstan holds a smaller enterprise presence.
For international routing, Transtelecom (TTK) operates approximately 15,000km of fibre-optic network across Kazakhstan, and via the TRANSKZ partnership with RETN provides a Europe–East Asia terrestrial route through Almaty and Astana. Round-trip times run 166–180ms on that path.
The Russia route (KZ-Moscow-AZ/GE) exists. We don't use it — international sanctions create commercial and operational risk we won't pass to clients.
The Caspian gap is being addressed. A Trans-Caspian Fibre Optic Cable is being laid across the Caspian Sea bed connecting Aktau (Kazakhstan) to Sumqayit (Azerbaijan) — 400Tbps capacity, due end 2026. Kazakhstan's Ministry of Digital Development also signed a memorandum in February 2025 to build a new West-East national fibre highway. When the Trans-Caspian cable lands, routing options change substantially.
No direct cloud on-ramps for AWS, Azure, or GCP operate in Kazakhstan yet — traffic routes to Frankfurt. Google Cloud explored a Central Asian node at the Akashi Data Centre in Astana (Tier IV, 43MW — the largest in Central Asia) but confirmed in September 2025 there are "no immediate plans." AWS is partnering on the Freedom Cloud DC near Almaty (construction started April 2025, 480 racks). Cloud presence is coming, just not yet.
What We've Actually Delivered
We delivered connectivity from Kazakhstan to Georgia and Azerbaijan within the last 12 months for a connectivity service provider. The path: Almaty → Frankfurt → Sofia → subsea Black Sea → Tbilisi/Baku. Frankfurt-to-Almaty round-trip runs approximately 82ms; Frankfurt-to-Tbilisi approximately 65ms.
Multi-country routes in this region carry hidden complexity — cost and tax separation across jurisdictions, and KMZ documentation that gets complicated fast. Clients who've tried managing this themselves typically come to us at the point where it's gone wrong.
Lead time in Almaty: four weeks is achievable if paperwork starts immediately. Realistically, plan 6–8 weeks.
Why Connected Networks for Kazakhstan
We've done the work to find the right partners in this region. Our access to carrier relationships across the former Soviet Union comes through local expertise most Western providers haven't found — and don't know to look for. When the Trans-Caspian cable lands in 2026, routing options improve materially. Until then, Frankfurt is the hub, the Russia path is off the table, and knowing which terrestrial routes are actually operational this week matters more than a rate card.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does traffic from Kazakhstan reach Europe?
Via terrestrial routes — TRANSKZ through Frankfurt, or other paths. We route via Frankfurt, avoiding Russia. The Trans-Caspian Fibre cable due in 2026 will open a direct east-west crossing for the first time.
How fast can you deliver in Almaty?
Four weeks is possible with immediate paperwork. Plan 6–8 weeks realistically.
Is Russia routing an option?
Technically yes. We don't use it — ongoing sanctions create commercial and operational risk.
Are there cloud regions in Kazakhstan?
Not yet. Google Cloud is exploring Akashi DC in Astana. AWS is partnering on a DC near Almaty. Both are future-state, not available today.
